Nintendo Mastermind Shares How a Prototype Game Led to the Creation of Fan-Favorite Super Smash Bros.

The Nintendo mastermind Masahiro Sakurai has started a new life as YouTuber. He talks about the gaming industry, then shares tips and thoughts about game designing. And in one such video, Sakurai recently spoke about the origin of his genius creation of Super Smash Bros. that many fans might not have known before.

Who doesn’t know about the Super Smash Bros. series? It is undoubtedly one of the most-played video game series by Nintendo. After all, this fighting video game features famous characters from multiple Nintendo games. The first Super Smash Bros. came out in 1999 for N64 and became a significant hit. Since then, there have been many successful installments.

Sakurai talks about the original concept behind Super Smash Bros.

Masahiro Sakurai talked about his Super Smash Bros. in a recent video titled the same as the game’s name. In the video, the 52-year-old game designer revealed the concept and ideas behind his creation of this masterpiece. But what caught everyone’s attention was when he shared a never seen game footage.

The Nintendo mastermind shared game footage that had some generic-looking characters. However, the gameplay was similar to the 1999 Nintendo crossover fighting game. Then Sakurai revealed that never seen footage was the prototype of a game called Dragon King: The Fighting Game.

The 52-year-old proposed Dragon King and an RC adventure game to the Japanese giants, who liked the proposals. But Sakurai’s team was busy with various other projects. But the Big N immediately needed a completed video game when those projects failed. So, Sakurai went ahead with the Dragon King.

Sakurai further explained that it evolved into Super Smash Bros. when they needed game characters. Sakurai didn’t want to present new characters but something familiar to his fans. So, he asked the Japanese giants to allow him to use the famous Nintendo characters in this crossover fighting game.

Not everyone was happy with this Nintendo crossover fighting game

Sakurai revealed the developers were pleased with the video game, but the marketing team and wholesalers were against this masterpiece, as they were against the main Nintendo characters beating each other. Even the traditional fighting-style game fans were against it. But after the game’s release, it became a noteworthy hit, and even the naysayers loved it.
