Oscar Winning Director Commends Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Movie for Turning the Tide on Animation Movies

After the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, the Internet could not believe the level of detail that went into the movie. The movie received praise for its voice acting as well, but it was the animation that received a lot of attention. After all, the movie was an adaptation of one of the most successful animated games of all time.

The praise went to a whole new level after an Oscar-winning director lauded it. Oscar-winning director Guillermo Del Toro spoke about the Super Mario Bros. Movie, appreciating the animation in the movie.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is no stranger to praise. The movie has received acclaim from fans of the Mario franchise, as well as people who did not play the game. However, when an Oscar-winning director praises the movie, it elevates it to a whole new level.

Speaking at the Annecy animation festival, Del Toro spoke about several animated movies. He went on to sayThe three hits of Spider-Verse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mario are moving things, allowing a little more latitude, but there are still big fights to be had.”

Coming from Del Toro, this is high praise. Del Toro’s Pinnochio won Best Animated Movie this year. Moreover, the director is a well-known lover of animation. Speaking of animated movies, he had this to say. “Animation to me is the purest form of art, and it’s been kidnapped by a bunch of hoodlums.”

Guillermo Del Toro is known to be a fan of video games. One of his favorite titles is Shadow of the Colossus. He has also worked on gaming titles before. His most famous work came when he worked alongside legendary game developer Hideo Kojima. The two worked together during the Silent Hills teaser, P.T. However, after a successful and quite scary demo, nothing materialized and the game was canceled.
