Daredevil: The Man Without Fear was in development in the early 2000s by 5,000 Ft. studio and intended for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox consoles. However, being a third-party developer, 5,000 Ft. had to get approval for the game before commencing on the task. During this process, Sony demanded more of the game and wanted the game to have a grinding progress mode inspired by Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series.

However, according to the source, the studio didn’t have the required resources to meet Sony’s demands at the time. During the same time, a live-action Daredevil was also in the works at 20th Century Fox. This meant that the game would also see a substantial increase in its budget. Despite the increased budget, the game failed to take shape.

Sony’s requirements for the game also clashed with what Marvel was looking for in the proposed Daredevil title. This made things worse and the involved parties failed to reach an agreement. Sony’s demands ultimately led to the game straying far from its original plot and Marvel refused to approve the game. Thus, it never saw completion and fans missed their chance to explore some of Marvel’s darkest characters.

The scrapped open-world project took its inspiration from Frank Miller’s Elektra Lives Again comic. In Daredevil: The Man Without Fear, Hell’s Kitchen descends into chaos after Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, is assassinated. A subsequent gang war engulfs the already volatile area and ultimately sees Elektra coming back from the dead.

Even though it was planned to be an open-world title, the game later went down a linear third-person path. Fans can only imagine what the game would have been like, but demands for a resurrection of the game might not be off the table just yet.
