Being the fifth-highest-paid Formula 1 driver, Charles Leclerc, in terms of material wealth, has it all. As per Forbes, he earns around $23 million a year. He owns several Ferraris, a Rolls-Royce, and a Bugatti, among other things. Moreover, he lives in one of the most expensive locales in the world- Monaco. However, he feels money hasn’t changed him and is the same person he was during his karting days.

Professionally, Charles Leclerc has come a long way since his karting days. He is not only competing in the pinnacle of motorsport but is also a driver for Ferrari, arguably the most legendary team in F1. But one thing he has carried forward from karting is the attitude of racing to win. Nothing less can satisfy the Monegasque driver.

In a 2020 interview with TKart, Charles revealed, “I certainly grew a lot compared to the times of karting. But it’s true, I’ve always been tough on the track. The only thing I’ve always had in mind, when I race, is to win!”

“I don’t think money and notoriety have changed me. In the end, I’m the same person I have always been. This is also why I like to organize karting days, because I look for the simplicity and authenticity of the people who met me long before I got to F1. Then, of course, seeing so many fans who greet you and look at you is always a pleasure, and I can perceive the difference even if compared to 5 – 6 years ago. But I don’t think this has changed me.”

Charles really hasn’t changed much. You can see that in his live streams on Twitch, which have become rarer since the pandemic-induced restrictions eased.

Charles Leclerc’s streams are among the best F1 content to watch during the off-season. He races on the simulator and goes on hilarious rants often. However, in one of his old streams, he was looking back at a fan-edited video of his glorious 2019 Italian GP win. He caught on a detail that he admitted he had missed out on, despite watching it more than a thousand times.

In the 23rd lap, Lewis Hamilton in P2 went wide while attacking Leclerc. Close behind them was Nico Hulkenberg, who was so engrossed in the battle in front of him that he braked late as well and went wide. Noticing that, Charles said, “Was that Nico behind? Yeah it was Nico Hulkenberg. I think he was too focused on fight in front. He just went straight on his own. Nico!”
