“He won in Spa, he wins in Monza!” These iconic words by David Croft describing Ferrari’s young talent, Charles Leclerc, are etched in history books forever. Leclerc, who was already a sensation, took his second victory at the 2019 Italian GP after almost a decade-long dry spell on the home turf. However, after he claimed Monza, a hilarious incident involving an unaware cab driver unfolded.

It was a Tifosi dream which the boy from Monaco brought to life when he took the checkered flag in front of hundreds of Tifosi. The highlight was the hope of bringing glory back. And this victory at the GP had moved everyone in perhaps every corner of Italy. One of them was the cabbie who was ferrying Leclerc after his win.

Talking to F1 Nations Podcast Italian journalist Roberto Chinchero said, “There was a funny story about that Sunday. I remember Charles booked a cab to go to the dinner after the Monza podium. The cab driver couldn’t see him and this man said, ‘Hey, have you been to the Grand Prix today? That young boy, the Ferrari driver, looks a very special one’. Charles said, ‘Yes, he looks good.—I am that guy’.”

Former Ferrari engineer Luigi Mazzola told Quotidiano Motori, “I’m sorry but I think Vasseur has the wrong approach when it comes to the problems at Ferrari. And I say that with full knowledge of the facts. Now I fear that (Charles) Leclerc will not renew his contract.”
