Mercedes are launching their car on March 1. But, in the meantime, they have whetted the appetite of fans on their social media platforms. In the wake of McLaren’s disappointing reveal, fans of the German team have demanded hints of their 2021 livery.

The team have been gearing up for the new season in full earnest. They had initially used their quintessential livery of silver for the intended season opener at Australia.

But, once the season was delayed for the coronavirus pandemic, they opted to shelve that livery for the restart. Instead, they opted for a black livery, signifying their support against social injustices and support for racial equality.

Mercedes troll McLaren

When a fan on Twitter asked them to reveal their livery for the upcoming 2021 season, Mercedes chose to reply in a tongue-in-cheek way.

They said that it was the same as last year, a small dig at McLaren. They had launched their car on February 15 with a lot of anticipation from fans in the buildup to it, only for McLaren to virtually put forward the same car, at least visually. The only change was under the hood, with their switch to Mercedes power units.

This exchange by the Silver Arrows makes for interesting reading, as they technically had two different liveries in 2020. So, fans will right now be in a tizzy trying to guess which livery will be used.

The black livery after the restart provided a very good change of color for fans. It made the car look sleeker and great to look at on the track. The silver livery is Mercedes’ classic look, though, so it will be interesting to see.
