With the truncated 2020 F1 calendar confirmed, teams are slowly beginning to try and get back in the groove. Interestingly, the KTM MotoGP team kicked things off with a private test at the Red Bull Ring. Then, the Mercedes F1 team announced its intentions to conduct a private test at Silverstone. Now, rivals, Scuderia Ferrari are set to follow suit with its own test at Fiorano.

In the build-up to the Austrian Grand Prix next month, several teams are trying to conduct private test sessions. Earlier this week Mercedes announced its intention to test in Silverstone in the coming weekend. In the meantime, Ferrari is set to do the same in Fiorano soon.

Over the past three and a half months, no Formula 1 team has put a wheel on the tarmac. In F1 terms, it is an eternity, considering that the winter break lasts two and a half months.

Scuderia Ferrari are on a mission

With the 2020 season finally beginning in July, every team knows that they need to rack up the kilometres. Another reason is that the drivers have been sitting idle for a long time, so they may be a little rusty. Some have even suggested that there may be carnage in the first couple of races.

In order to set things rolling, Mercedes and Ferrari planned their respective closed test sessions. However, none of the drivers are allowed to step into the 2020 car, so it will still be under wraps. Instead, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will hop into the 2018 car.

However, there is no news of Ferrari doing the same for Charles Leclerc. In addition to that, there is no news of when the test will take place. Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto told La Stampa“I talked to Leclerc for the last time last Thursday and we spoke about the test he will do for Austria at Fiorano.”
