Alfa Romeo Boss Advises Mick Schumacher to Stop Focusing on F1

After 8 long years, fans are dying to see the Schumacher name back in Formula One. With Michael Schumacher’s absence, all hopes and prayers rest on his son, Mick Schumacher to carry on the legacy. If he does enter Formula One, one of the most obvious destinations, is Alfa Romeo because it is practically a Ferrari B team.

However, team principal Frederic Vasseur is has played coy on what Alfa Romeo’s driver situation is. Many suggested that Schumacher could step in as early as the 2020 season itself, but Vasseur has refused to give any hints. The praise kept rolling in, as FIA president Jean Todt called the 21-year-old, “intelligent, mature and humble”.

Speaking to Corriere della Sera, Todt said, “I hope he has a good season in Formula 2. I think he will have a career.”

Despite the swirling rumours, Alfa Romeo boss Vasseur is avoiding any topic pertaining to silly season.

The Alfa Romeo boss spoke about the recent developments in the F1 driver market. They included, Sebastian Vettel, Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo. Vettel is set to leave Ferrari at the end of the season, with Carlos Sainz taking his place, and Daniel Ricciardo replacing the Spaniard.

Speaking to Blick, Vasseur admitted that his team have been fairly quiet, because Kimi Raikkonen still has a contract. Meanwhile, Antonio Giovinazzi has been getting stronger and stronger.

Vasseur concluded: “Everyone can have his opinion and we will do our thing. Also, Mick should concentrate first on his Formula 2 career.”

On the subject of financial fears due to the coronavirus, he said, “Thanks to the owners, we can keep all 500 employees,” he revealed. “This support is unique and very comforting for the future. Because we still have a long way to go.”

“At a time when Formula 1 is about survival, you get to know the character of your opponents damn well. I have been amazed by how narrow-minded some gentlemen are who, unfortunately, cannot see the big picture. Many of them have to understand that the world could live without Formula 1.”
