Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff have developed a Formula 1 dynasty at Mercedes. As a driver and Team Principal, respectively, they’ve shown what exemplary men they are in talent, grit, and personality. However, Wolff explains why their strong personalities have never crossed swords to hinder their friendship and the team.

Recently, Toto Wolff sat down with David Coulthard for Channel 4 Sport. During the interview, Wolff explained his relationship with the 7-time Champion, Lewis Hamilton, and what it means for the team. He also went on to disclose a side of Hamilton that people often fail to see.

Wolff began, “Lewis and I have been together now for 10 years. In a way it was Alpha Males in a different situation that were put into this together.”

He explained, “Today we’re friends but we care. I care for him, he cares for me and he cares for the team also.”

However, as Wolff narrated, sometimes the ego and personalities get the better of each other in high-pressure situations. “Sometimes the Lion comes out and you hear these angry messages.”

But he contextualized this by disclosing a side of the Brit that many seem to not see. “He’s the one that, after hearing that he is apologetic because he has a big heart.”
