Fernando Alonso was Esteban Ocon’s hero at the 2021 Hungarian GP. However, it soon turned into a bitter rivalry the very next year after Ocon and Alonso went head to head to come out as the No.1 Alpine driver. Ocon’s 2022 campaign and aggressiveness are still believed to be one of the reasons why Alonso left Alpine. While the French team has been nowhere near Aston Martin’s pace this year, the rivalry was once again reignited at the 2023 Brazilian GP

Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon had multiple instances of going head-to-head during the 2022 season. Coming toward the end of the season in Brazil, Ocon’s shenanigans at the Brazilian GP were the final nail in the coffin for his relationship with the Spaniard. On the main straight in Brazil, Alonso lost his front wing as he collided with Ocon. It was then followed by a sarcastic message from Alonso.

2023 saw a repeat of what happened last year in Brazil, but to a higher degree with the roles reversed. Esteban Ocon, who was in the elimination zone in the SQ1, was on his final flying lap. The Frenchman got out of shape on his lap and crashed into his Spanish ex-teammate on the outside. However, he wasn’t in the mood to take the blame. When asked if he was okay, Ocon came out with a fiery radio message for Alonso. Ocon, post crashing, on the radio said, “F**king Idiot Fernando”

Everyone including us is wondering whether this will be the start of the rivalry between them. Nonetheless, Fernando Alonso wasn’t having any of Ocon’s blame game and made and shifted the blame back to his former teammate.

Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin was left in an injured state as a result of the crash. Watching the onboard camera, it can be seen that Alonso left Ocon with enough space. It was the Frenchman who got out of shape and crashed into Alonso. Fernando Alonso was able to make it back to the pits with the ailing left front. The Spaniard won’t be able to continue for the rest of the sprint shootout as the damage to the car was impossible to repair in such a short time.

The 42-year-old however didn’t let the crash slide by as moments after Ocon called him an idiot, he shifted the blame for the crash onto the Alpine driver. Fernando Alonso was heard on the radio post-crash as he said, “Yeah, a lot of damage I guess. He went into me I think.” It’s up to the FIA and the stewards now to decide who was guilty of the incident.
