When the 2020 season concludes, it will be the last time anyone sees Sebastian Vettel in red overalls. The German driver is set to leave Ferrari at the end of the year, with his future up in the air. Many rumours suggest that he could be headed to Mercedes, either partnering Lewis Hamilton or replacing him.

Interestingly, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, has not ruled out signing the 4-time world champion. In addition to that, it almost appears that Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto has given his blessing to join the Silver Arrows. He said, “If Seb went to Mercedes, I would be happy for him. He is a 4-time world champion and he deserves a top team.”

Sebastian Vettel to Mercedes – Pros and Cons

First and foremost, Vettel is still a highly talented driver, despite not performing well with Ferrari. Secondly, he is only 32-years old, so he still has a few years left in him. Being a 4-time world champion, his credentials practically speak for themselves. It could potentially help that Vettel and Lewis Hamilton get along well on the track and off it. The two have often defended each other from critics and talk to each other.

So, if Vettel did partner Hamilton in the Mercedes ‘dream team’, who’s to say that the cycle won’t repeat itself. Hopefully, if the union does happen, Vettel and Hamilton keep their egos in check and work together for Mercedes’ sake.
