The Bahrain Grand Prix showcased a lot of surprising scenarios and gave a reality check to the teams. However, the most unsurprising aspect of the race in the desert was Red Bull’s domination. Max Verstappen won the race by a considerable margin and showcased yet another dominating performance. We can credit some of the superiority to the RB19. However, even with similar machinery, Verstappen cannot be beaten, which is a brutal reality check for Sergio Perez.

The Mexican hoped to make his contention for the champion title in 2023. However, Verstappen’s dominance in the season opener showcased the title is far from Perez’s reach. Son of F1 legend Niki Lauda Mathias is of this opinion, which he revealed to ServusTV as quoted by F1 Maximaal.

Speaking to the news outlet, Mathias Lauda said, “The way Verstappen did it in 2022, we have hardly ever seen it. It was almost boring. A boring season is also expected for this year. “Red Bull built a really strong car over the winter and I’ve rarely seen Max so strong.”

“I think Max and Pérez get along very well. If I were Pérez I would try to be the best number two in the world. I would try to win a few races. He has to accept that Max is the better one. It’s like Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher, he just has to admit it.”

He said, “He already has a huge lead. Max is a nightmare for the competition. I’ve said that several times. The only weakness he had in the last two years was that he couldn’t back down. He was very aggressive. Now he’s grown up and he controls the races. The speed is getting better and better.”

Verstappen crushed the completion in 2022. Heading into 2023, the outlook is the same as the Dutchman is pipped to repeat the heroics of the previous season. If there were any doubts, the race in Bahrain quashed them as well.
