Canadian GP Pole-Sitter Max Verstappen Eyes ‘Best Present’ for Jos Verstappen on Father’s Day

F1 has seen a few sons follow in the footsteps of their fathers in the sport. One such second-generation F1 driver on the grid is Max Verstappen. The 2021 F1 world champion is the son of former F1 driver Jos Verstappen.

On the occasion of Father’s day today, the Dutchman took to social media to post a message for his father.

Verstappen also cheekily hinted at his aim for the race later today as he hopes to secure his father a present for father’s day

 

Max Verstappen and Jos Verstappen’s special bond

Jos Verstappen has been alongside his son Max every step of the way in his journey to become the World Champion. He raced in the series from 1994 up until 2003 and registered 2 podium finishes to his name.

Naturally, when Max picked up a liking for karting and started to get into racing, Jos was his number 1 critic and ally at the same time. He played a pivotal role through Max’s junior years and aided him in getting to the top.

Jos worked on his son’s engines and chassis during his karting days. He and Max would then drive around to different competitions in a van. He has also worked as Max’s manager, taking care of the business side of things for his son.

Although sometimes Jos’s approach has been deemed a little overboard, Max has previously insisted that it has helped shaped him to be the driver he is today.

Verstappen also repaid all his father’s efforts by clinching the Driver’s Championship in 2021. He currently leads the 2022 championship as well. Now, Max hopes to secure victory at the Canadian GP as a present to his father on the occasion of fathers day.
