Carlos Sainz Lays Down 2022 Plan With Ferrari – “My Biggest Goal Is to Become World Champion…”

Ferrari man Carlos Sainz has his eyes set on winning the coveted F1 World Title. The Spaniard wants to win it with his current Constructor, the Scuderia Ferrari. As Bottas moved to Alfa Romeo, Carlos is indeed is a man to look out for, apart from Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Sainz came back brilliantly last year to help his team snatch P3 from McLaren, his previous team. At some stage it looked like Carlos Sainz will finish behind his current teammate Charles Leclerc and former teammate Lando Norris. However, a brilliant comeback at the closing stage of the championship turned the tide on the Spaniard.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera, Carlos conveyed, “As Binotto said, we are both happy, we are thinking of continuing together and we will have the opportunity to make a deal this winter. We strive for this. My biggest goal is to become world champion with Ferrari. I want to extend my contract as soon as possible.

The former Renault driver heard a lot about Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher at Ferrari. Factually, Michael Schumacher and Ferrari go well side by side. In this regard, Sainz Jr further stated, “During my time at Ferrari, I heard a lot of stories about Michael Schumacher. Schumacher is someone I really want to get to know, someone I would like to have as a teammate. So I could understand how it was so special.

How did Carlos Sainz fare last season?

The Spanish Speedster exceeded all expectations by finishing in P5, right behind the two Mercedes and Red Bull drivers. In the process, he picked up 164.5 points and grabbed four podium finishes in his very first season at the Maranello-based team. Most remarkable among them was his P3 in Abu Dhabi last year.

The 27-year-old became a known face in F1 circuits when he joined McLaren from Renault in 2019. With a total of 6 podium finishes in his bag, Sainz is yet to register a race victory under his name. It’ll be interesting to see if the Spaniard can pick up a race win this season, and perhaps the championship later on.
