Charles Leclerc and Fellow F1 Drivers Organise a Virtual Championship for Charity

Anybody who follows Formula One knows that a few current F1 drivers love to stream simulator games on Twitch. Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc are avid gamers and often get together to play streaming games. Earlier today, Leclerc announced that he and several other drivers and sports stars were organising a championship for charity.

Leclerc and 18 other drivers are set to participate in a 3-race online series. Any donations will go towards aiding in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Among the participants are 6 F1 drivers, 1 Formula E driver, 6 Formula 2 drivers, 1 Formula 3 driver, 1 Motorcycle rider and a professional football goalkeeper.

This championship boasts of drivers like Leclerc, Alexander Albon, Norris, George Russell, Nicholas Latifi and Antonio Giovinazzi. Other drivers include, Antonio Felix da Costa, Arthur Leclerc, Giuliano Alesi, Pietro Fittipaldi, Louis Deletraz, Sean Gelael, Antonio Fuoco, Callum Ilott, Nick Cassidy, Luca Salvadori, Luca Albon and Thibaut Courtois.

The opening race kick off on April 11th, with the following events on the 14th and 17th respectively. In addition to that, drivers will participate in two races per day. Of course, as mentioned before, any and all donations go to the World Health Organisation to help fight against COVID-19.

Admittedly, the pandemic practically crippled the entire world and forced everyone to stay indoors and self-isolate. For the sporting world, it means that no sporting or public activity is encouraged for a fairly long time. So, everyone is in self-isolation while they wait for the storm to pass.

To be honest, this is not exactly an ideal situation, because there are chances that driver contracts may get affected. In addition to that, the F1 2021 rules have had to be pushed back. The big question on everyone’s mind is, “Is Formula One ready for the possibility of no racing for the entire year?”. If this happens, it could spell a financial disaster for everyone involved.

Meanwhile, all that the F1 drivers can do is stay healthy, keep their spirits up and entertain themselves and their fans. The likes of Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Albon and Norris are already doing a decent job of laying on the entertainment.
