This interview, however, took place sometime in mid-October, all before the team boss, Mattia Binotto, bid adieu to the game altogether.

Charles Leclerc was the dominant driver from Ferrari this season as compared to his teammate, Carlos Sainz. When questioned about how he managed that if the newer cars were the sole reason for this improvement, or was he approaching the game differently?

The Ferrari man replied, saying, “I changed a few things. The way I work. How I discipline myself at home. That was a bit of freestyle last year. Whenever I was at home, I did a thousand things. To be honest, I was very tired in 2021 from mid-season to the end.”

“That influenced me and affected the performance. It’s also possible that this car suits me better. We had a great winter test. We tried a lot of things there. We put a lot of focus on how I can drive the car. That helped that I started the season on a high level. I could focus on the details,” he said, in conclusion. [Translated from Google]

Charles Leclerc shared his two cents on losing his winning streak to Max Verstappen

At the beginning of the season, Ferrari started strong, with two wins in Leclerc’s hat. However, the Dutchman, Max Verstappen, swooped in and claimed his win from the 3rd race. Referring to this sudden switch, Charles was questioned if this switch-over of victory seemed bothersome to him. Was he worried?

He said, “I believed in it until late in the season. You have to do that. In the first few races they had a couple of upgrades that put them a little ahead of us. The frustrating part came when we got an upgrade and had the fastest car. The new parts in Barcelona have really pushed us forward. We made too little out of it.”

To conclude, he added, “The engine broke down in Barcelona. In Monaco we made a mistake in strategy. The next engine failure came in Baku. Then the engine penalty in Canada. It went downhill. The pace was there to win races, but we didn’t deliver. That was hard to accept.”
