Despite facing some terrifying experiences at the Silverstone, Charles Leclerc has recently maintained a positive outlook. The Monegasque stated in a recent interview that he wished to bring back the Ferrari’s splendor. However, much as in the 19 of the last 20 races where Red Bull has kept up its winning streak, Max Verstappen and co haven’t given up an inch to put the ball in Ferrari’s court. And now, despite topping the second practice session at the Budapest, the 25-year-old has already surrendered to the Red Bull rocket ship.

Ferrari has experienced tire deterioration and poor strategic decisions thus far in the season. Because of the conditions, Ferrari now trails Red Bull, who is leading the championship, by a huge 254-point margin. And even after being well aware of the fact that the recent upgrades brought by the Scuderi at the Spanish GP didn’t line with the tire issue management, Leclerc recently made some bold assertions, saying “Realistically, looking at Red Bull’s performance now, I don’t like to say it’s impossible to catch up with them, but it is very difficult.”

Shortly after the statement as the Formula 1 circus arrived in Budapest, Charles Leclerc made a splash at the Hungaroring track by dominating FP2 However, due to the recent changes in tire allocation rules, which reduced the number of tires drivers could use from 13 to 11 in order to improve sustainability, which saw Red Bull using only one set of tires during practice, the extra caution made Leclerc conscious that the Austrian side is still the strongest on the grid.

Following the practice session, when asked whether Ferrari had bridged its gap with Red Bull, a cautious Leclerc said, “Not really. they only used one set, I think, in fp2. we still expect them to be the strongest team.”

Although the Ferrari has made progress in overcoming their team’s Achilles Heel at the Budapest circuit’s tight terrain, the Monaco driver is nonetheless troubled by something ahead of qualifying.

Silverstone, an old airfield, was infamous for its gusts and winds that fully mess with driving, and that is what is haunting Leclerc the most ahead of the quali at the Budapest.
