Earlier today, Mercedes announced a two-year extension for Lewis Hamilton that sees him drive for the team till the end of 2023. Since then, social media has been buzzing endlessly, with fans across the world sharing their opinions.
Along with fans, Aston Martin joined in on the action by teasing a contract extension for Sebastian Vettel. At the ongoing Austrian Grand Prix weekend, the British outfit put out an interesting tweet to keep fans on edge.

Despite Vettel turning 34 today, he still has a spring in his step since his move to Aston Martin this year. In eight races so far, the German garnered 30 points which includes a podium finish in Baku and an impressive P5 in Monaco.
While the German is two years younger than Hamilton, one may argue both drivers are in the twilight of their careers. However, Hamilton’s contract extension is proof of the Silver Arrows’ continued faith in their star driver.

In addition to that, Vettel seems more at home with Aston Martin than he did at Ferrari last season. Within minutes of Mercedes’ announcement, Aston Martin jumped in with this intriguing tweet.

While the exact duration of his current contract isn’t clear, Vettel is definitely racing for Aston Martin till the end of next season. However, this tweet could mean that the British outfit are thinking of keeping him until 2023 as well.

The rivalry between Hamilton and Vettel produced some of the finest racing from both drivers in their F1 careers. Although Vettel won four world titles before Hamilton, he fell behind the Briton after the inception of the hybrid era in 2014. Despite Mercedes staying ahead of Ferrari, Vettel kept pushing the Briton to his limit across multiple championship-contending seasons.
The new technical regulations from next season could see some teams make major strides in development. Aston Martin could be one such team, with the British outfit hoping Vettel can lead their long-term project.
