“DUMB IDIOT” – Frustrated Verstappen Has a Blunt Reaction to Perez-Tsunoda Blunder in Qualifying

Nothing can be more annoying for a Formula 1 driver to be on a flying lap in the closing seconds of Q3, chasing the pole and then a mistake by another driver ruining it midway. This is what happened to Max Verstappen in Mexico as he lashed out after only managing P3 on the grid.

In the final few seconds of Q3, both Red Bull drivers were on their flying laps, Sergio Perez ahead of Verstappen.

But Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda had an incident, which resulted in Sergio Perez behind him to lock up as he subsequently went off-track, which further derailed Max Verstappen’s chances of a pole.

An angry Verstappen made his frustration very clear on his radio.

“Unbelievable, what a dumb idiot.”

Now, it remains unclear whether the championship leader was referring to his teammate Sergio Perez or the Alpha Tauri driver Yuki Tsunoda.

But what’s clear after the qualifying is that against all predictions, Mercedes somehow found some hidden pace over Red Bull. Valtteri Bottas took the pole followed by Lewis Hamilton in second while his rival Verstappen will start in third.

Max Verstappen loses it for the second consecutive race

During FP2 in Austin, everyone got a preview of the racing action when rivals Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton got awfully close before Turn 1.

The Briton didn’t leave space for the Dutch, who went off track for a second.

This led to Verstappen expressing his feelings both with verbally and with an aid of a physical gesture from his cockpit.

The seven-time world champion criticised Verstappen for his lack of respect towards other F1 drivers.

But Max Verstappen didn’t explain or apologise for his reaction towards Hamilton in Austin.

But Verstappen may have some explaining to do after this particular radio message considering the sheer numbers and the enthusiasm of Sergio Perez’s supporters in his home race.

They could potentially make Verstappen’s race quite difficult and that’d be the last thing he’d want at such a crucial point in the season.
