The potential rising giants, Aston Martin Racing, are back in F1 after six long decades. Undeniably, expectations over their possible contention for the title have been substantially growing as well.

Amid such expectations, will they manage to become the next Mercedes AMG F1 team and dominate the pack?

Well, Ferrari’s engineer, Ernest Knoors, thinks so.

Apparently, he felt that the change in the pilot and other crucial internal positions hinted at the British team’s massive goals in F1.

Furthermore, it is a known fact that Lawrence Stroll is a mastermind who doesn’t make such drastic changes without a reason. This proves that the Canadian has bigger plans in signing a driver like Sebastian Vettel, who is yet to have a decent season since 2019.

Ernest’s claims on Aston Martin

According to Motorsport, while speaking to RTLGP, Ernest reckoned that Aston Martin are internally building a potential championship-winning team.

He said, “I think Aston Martin is a very interesting project for the future. I think some important people behind the scenes have also changed.

Racing Point were amidst the recovery phase for a year since the takeover from Vijay Mallya-led Force India. However, the team came back stronger for the 2020 season, taking home their first race win and three podiums.

Now, taking shape into a much bigger name in Aston Martin, the Stroll-led team are in a much stronger position going into the 2021 season. Furthermore, their partnership with Mercedes only bolsters their prospects for the upcoming season.

There are a lot of AMG engineers getting involved: Ferrari engineer

Ernest claimed that Mercedes’ subsidiary, AMG, have been working with Aston Martin in other championship series. And hence, he felt that such developments in the two’s partnership could be a sign of better things to come for Aston Martin in F1.

Aston Martin already has cars in other championships and there is a lot of AMG engineers getting involved. These are things that point in a certain direction,” he said.

Aston Martin’s first stint, which took place between the 1959-60 seasons, wasn’t an impressive one. Neither of the drivers managed to score a point, as the team bowed out of F1 following the 1960 season, empty-handed.

Hence, one might assume that the chances of Aston Martin meeting with yet another failure over their upcoming second stint are high.

However, that isn’t the case.

With a powerful Mercedes engine at the back, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the team could occasionally compete for podiums and race wins as well.

So, considering what’s on the table, could Aston Martin rise to establish their dominion in Formula 1? Will Vettel subsequently return to the top of the podium after the long wait?
