It is a dream of almost every Formula 1 driver to drive for the oldest, most successful, iconic, and prestigious team on the grid, Ferrari. Ferrari’s charm is unparalleled and once you do get to put on the red suit, no one wants to ever take it off. However, for Carlos Sainz, push might come to shove in 2024 with an unbelievable task at hand to secure his future at Ferrari.

Sainz was over the moon when he got the Ferrari call for the 2021 season. The Spanish driver has since grown into a race winner by winning one in each of the last two seasons. His 2023 Singapore GP race win especially earned him a lot of respect from the entire gird. However, the task at hand now is to perform even better in 2024 to secure a contract renewal.

It is no secret Sainz’s Ferrari contract is only till the end of the 2024 season. He has not signed an extension nor is there any chatter of an extension from official sources. In his recent blog posted on QN Motori, Turrini admitted Sainz will get an extension, he has been told. However, there is a clause that will securing an extension feel like a trial by fire. According to Turrini, Sainz will need to win at least 5 races in 2024 to secure an extension from Ferrari.

If true, it will be a challenging season for Sainz and perhaps he will stop listening to the team’s orders. With just two in his F1 career so far, he will have to pull a rabbit out of his hat and secure 5 more race wins to take his overall tally to seven.

However, even if he does achieve this mammoth task, will he get what he wants from the team?

The Spaniard is in the last year of his contract with the Italian team, he’s 29 years old, and now he no longer desires to secure his future yearly. Sainz wants long-term commitment from the team so he can fully focus on racing and winning championships. He believes Ferrari is the right team to do it and he feels he still has a few years under his belt.

Sainz admitted, “I want to renew and I like to do it for more than a year and that is my intention and I feel very valued by Fred and Ferrari, I feel loved and I will renew if I continue to feel that way. They know what I’ve been capable of for three years, my qualities.”
