F1 Throwback: When Sebastian Vettel Gained a New Fan Through an Act of Kindness

In the wake of Sebastian Vettel walking away from Ferrari, some fans shared stories about the 4-time world champion. quite a few had heart-warming stories, and one Reddit user, trex_racer, shared an interesting one.

Apparently, he wasn’t really a big Vettel fan, especially during his Red Bull days. However, the German soon grew on him as time passed, and he began to appreciate him more.

The Austin native recounted an incident last year, a week before the US GP got underway. He spotted a Ferrari GT4CLusso with Vettel and one of his friends clambering out. Being a Tifosi, he called out to Vettel to say hello and take a photo with the German driver.

The 32-year old obliged and they talked for a few minutes being completely genuine, even introducing himself as if he was addressing a non-F1 fan who didn’t know who he was.

He continued, “He asks me if I’m going to the race on Sunday and I tell him that I couldn’t get tickets that year but I’m looking forward to watching him have a good race.”

They all stayed in touch throughout the week, though trex_racer often felt guilty disturbing him since Vettel enjoys his privacy.

What did Sebastian Vettel do to earn the fan’s adoration?

Tres_racer continued, “I come home a few days later and there’s a bag tied to my doorknob. I open it and there’s a signed hat with a note hand written on Ferrari letterhead with two tickets inside addressed to me by name.”

“A four time world champion meets me once in passing and notes that I didn’t have tickets, remembers my name, goes out of his way to find me some and hand writes the note. He’s a class act and I’ll never forget it.”

In spite of his introverted nature, Sebastian Vettel always makes time for the fans and even goes above and beyond for them.
