This legend of the sport who has risen from the ashes like a Phoenix and found a home in Aston Martin has chosen his worthy successor while dropping hints at his retirement.

Fernando Alonso, who has quite the name in the paddock for having a poor work relationship with his teammates, showed his different side at Baku. The anti-hero turned the tables to help Lance Stroll by suggesting the brake balance changes. This camaraderie between these two, while it was a sight to watch, also raises the question of bromance brewing between them. In a way, Fernando Alonso has taken Lance under his wing to bring out the potential in him and eventually pass on his Aston Martin throne in the capable hands of Stroll.

Following the race, when asked if he feels like Stroll’s big brother, Alonso replied by saying, as reported by GPBlog.com, “In a way, yes. I know that I will be in the sport for a few more years. After that, he (Stroll) will lead the team for the next 10 or 15 years. So I hope I can help Lance as much as I can in the next few years.”

Fernando Alonso qualified P6 and finished fourth in the main race. The Spaniard managed to take P3 in the first three races and had a very good start to the season. The Baku City Circuit is known for its DRS placement. But both Aston Martin’s were hit with DRS problems throughout the Azerbaijan weekend. Despite an unsatisfactory run on the Baku Circuit, Fernando says he’s happy with the results, and moved on to what’s next. He said, “I think we had a tricky weekend with the DRS issue on Friday and Saturday, but despite this we have finished only one second away from the podium at the chequered flag. With that in mind, I have to be happy with fourth position and our overall performance which was encouraging all race.”
