Fernando Alonso Pressure Pushes Aston Martin to Make Big F1 Promise: “We Need to Be Prepared”

The fiasco that ensued after Alpine wrongfully announced the signing of Oscar Piastri, finally wrapped up with Piastri going to McLaren and Fernando Alonso going to Aston Martin to replace the retiring Sebastian Vettel. However, Aston Martin boss Mike Krack must have struggled to persuade Alonso after the dreadful season of failing to deliver despite the huge promise.
And while last season it might not have been entirely Krack’s fault following his late appointment, this year the entire responsibility rests entirely on his shoulders. With Alonso joining next year alongside Lance Stroll, the Spaniard’s belief in the project makes it more important for Mike Krack to deliver a good car.

“We underperformed as a team last season, and this season, we know we must deliver a frontrunning car,” admitted the boss as per Sports Illustrated.
“We need to be prepared; we need to be able to anticipate what he’s going to ask for. What ideas might we have? What might he want from the car? What processes might he like the team to have in place?” he added.
The team acknowledged another challenge of covering up the development of the car, which they believe has fallen behind. With the pressure mounting on Krack, Fernando Alonso will not back down easily and help them hold down the fort. He has driven many uncompetitive cars in the past and would be the right person to get the team out of the swamp.

Fernando Alonso, coming in place of Sebastian Vettel, must be expected to play a role larger than being just a driver. Be it mentoring or something else, that would be the least expectation of the team.
Krack praised Alonso and talked about what sets him apart. He said, “Fernando [Alonso] is a straight talker. But it’s also important to remember that drivers like Fernando have only achieved what they have because they keep asking questions – they keep pushing, they keep wanting more.”
