Consistency is key in Formula 1. If the driver performs well in qualifying but is unable to mirror that performance on race day, a good starting position means nothing. Thus, every driver aims to be as consistent as possible, and Fernando Alonso is no different. However, he wants to understand how teams provide different results over a weekend, from practice sessions to the qualifying rounds.
Alonso feels by understanding Alpine’s consistency levels as early as December can help the French-based team achieve better results and score crucial points for the championship.

Speaking to Cadena Cope, as quoted by PlanetF1, Fernando Alonso said, “I spoke to Checo Perez this [Sunday] morning to ask why he was fastest in FP1 and then he’s ninth in Q3. It doesn’t make sense. But then today he was fighting for the podium.
“Why are all these variables happening during a weekend? It’s not a question of luck. We have to understand that.

“But I’m not worried. I have been strong all weekend compared to the first weekends and am happy and have been stronger in the race when in qualifying [at Monaco] nothing worked.
“There are still 18 races left in the championship and we will do the math in December and not now,” Alonso concluded.
Alonso gives his reason for having a poor qualifying session
The two-time world champion had a tough time during his weekend at Monaco. Only managing to set the 17th fastest lap, the Spaniard was unable to make it any further than Q1 on Saturday.
Talking about why that was the case, Alonso said, “I think confidence was good, I was able to push the car and extract the maximum. It’s going to be messy in Q1 with traffic and things like that. That was not ideal but I don’t think that was the cause of being out of [Q3].

“We didn’t have the pace. I think the whole weekend we’ve been struggling a little bit with the pace. We were expecting more from Monaco on our package and yes we didn’t deliver,” Alonso concluded.
The Alpine driver would look to the upcoming race at Baku to achieve better results in his comeback season.
