Following last season’s disappointment, Ferrari now intend to bounce back stronger in 2021. Having finished 6th in the standings, the Italian motorsport giants have made a few changes to their car.
But despite the efforts invested, former Ferrari President Luca Cordero di Montezemolo believes last season was disastrous for the team. He also believes that the team is not ‘organized properly’ and that it cannot be changed within a year.
Speaking to Bild Sport, and as quoted by FormulaPassion, he stated, “Ferrari’s 2020 championship was a disaster. In the past, even third place was considered a failure for Ferrari.” (translated from Google Translate)

Ferrari used to look for faults and hire the best talents for problem areas, says Montezemolo
The problems started creeping in for Ferrari shortly after they had to make changes to their power units in 2019. Since then, the competitive performances on track have been unimpressive, leading to their final position of 6th in 2020.
Montezemolo continued, “We used to look for our faults and hire the best talents for positions in problem areas, whether it was aerodynamics, electronics, mechanics.

One of the major issues Ferrari faced last year was their lack of horsepower to edge the closer battles in the races. Whilst they had decent free practice sessions, qualifying did not go per expectations for the team.
That translated on the track, when fighting with midfield rivals, who possessed better power units. Despite Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel’s efforts, they would get overtaken in the latter stages of Grands Prix.
