Former Red Bull F1 Driver Slams Steiner for ‘Stupid’ Mick Schumacher Criticism

After winning the F2 championship last year, Mick Schumacher was ready to bring his skills to F1. However, instead of making an impact from the very start of the season, the German driver has been struggling and often being involved in crashes when he is pushing the limit of his Haas.
Team Principal, Guenther Steiner has been vocally critical about his rookie driver, but former F1 driver Christian Klien doesn’t see eye-to-eye with the Austrian boss. He defended Schumacher Jr, stating these incidents happen in the first year of an F1 driver.

Klien defends Mick Schumacher from Steiner’s criticism
It’s been a tough first half of the season for the rookie driver, Schumacher Jr hasn’t been able to score a single point for his team so far, and often finds himself crashing out, which takes a toll on the team’s budget. Steiner has commented on his driving style, but Klien thinks those are unfair to the 22-year-old.
Speaking to Speedweek, the Austrian said, “He doesn’t do it on purpose. What do you want with a car that doesn’t work? You have to push, and when you push, it sometimes goes over the limit. That’s the way things happen in the first year. It’s stupid that Haas doesn’t have the budget, then it hurts twice.”

Schumacher Jr often finds himself getting knocked out in the first round of qualifying itself, which makes it difficult to battle his way up the grid and seize some points for the Steiner-led team.
The best result so far this season has been at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he crossed the line in twelfth place. With the summer break now on, Schumacher Jr will be wanting to redeem himself at Spa for the Belgium Grand Prix.
