Bottas shares his perspective on the genesis of ‘BOTTASS 2024’

The idea of a calendar featuring the Finn in various states of undress might seem unconventional. But for Valtteri Bottas, it’s all about making a positive impact. In an era where athletes are increasingly leveraging their platforms for social causes, Bottas chose to address men’s health in a way that would grab attention and spark conversations.

Bottas explained the genesis of the calendar project. As per motorsport.com, he said, “Last year, when I launched that one photo in Aspen, it was quite popular. And we actually did raise quite a bit of funds. Because I do quite a bit of stuff with Ripke. He’s a good friend, the photographer, and then we started to joke about the idea, ‘Imagine if there’s the full calendar.’”

Initially a joke, the idea evolved into a serious endeavor as Movember month approached. Bottas elaborated on the decision-making process, saying, “And then closer to November, Movember month, we started to think actually, that’s something we could do, something really, really good. And we decided that yeah, let’s do it, but for charity. It’s mainly for prostate cancer research, so I think it’s for a good cause.

The choice to collaborate with Movember Charity reflects Bottas’s commitment to addressing various aspects of men’s health, especially those that tend to be overlooked or stigmatized. Movember’s emphasis on prostate cancer research resonated with Bottas, who recognizes the importance of destigmatizing conversations around men’s health.
