As the F1 season came to an end, fans already started counting down the days to the Winter test. However, the off-season has been nothing short of a full-blown drama. With the FIA and Toto Wolff controversy and now Guenther Steiner’s surprise exit from Haas. Amid all this, as the fans look forward to the upcoming season of Drive to Survive, Guenther Steiner has come out to defend the Netflix docuseries soon after his exit from Haas. What did he say?

Guenther Steiner is arguably one of the most loved members of the Drive to Survive series. Apart from the Christian Horner and Toto Wolff rivalry portrayed in a Mercedes vs Red Bull scenario, Steiner is the star of the show. The impromptu personality is something that everyone loves. And while he will feature in the upcoming season, further appearances seem bleak as Steiner is yet to find a new team. 

From the fans’ perspective, there has been a massive uproar toward Guenther Steiner’s sacking from Haas. Some believe it is because the DTS star will no longer be featured in the series. However, over the years, there has been a concern put up by purists that the Netflix docuseries don’t portray the exact reality and makeup drama within the show. Scenarios are created that don’t really exist in real life. 

Nonetheless, Guenther Steiner has come out to defend Netflix’s Drive to Survive. Just like the star of the show that he is, in a recent interview with Autosport, the former Haas Team Principal advised how Liberty Media has managed to keep the competition at the heart of the sport. It was only after Liberty Media’s takeover that Netflix’s Drive to Survive and targeting the American audience began. So defending Liberty Media’s approach does indirectly defend DTS and expansion in the US.

And since Liberty Media has the commercial rights of F1, Netflix’s DTS can very well be considered their doing. Regardless, while Guenther Steiner here has defended DTS, other members in the F1 paddock think otherwise. 

“That didn’t happen”: Toto Wolff slams Drive to Survive for creating unrealistic scenarios 

“You’ve got a problem, change of effing car”. Christian Horner’s iconic dialogue from DTS pointed toward Toto Wolff. It was the first time we realized what kind of heated battles were going on behind the scenes. And while that scene was true, not every scene is. Scenes and Dialogue are cut short and pasted together to create drama that doesn’t really exist, and Toto Wolff pointed the same out. 

Toto Wolff said, “It’s scary how much we let them in. You hate to see yourself in there. They create a spin to the narrative – they put scenes together that didn’t happen. I guess you’d say as an insider, ‘well that’s different than how it was’. But we’re creating entertainment, and that is a new dimension of entertainment.”
