“I Am Aware of Where Renault May Be”- Fernando Alonso Sets His Sights on 2022 Ahead of F1 Return

Recently, Fernando Alonso attended the PL4NETS Wellbeing Summit, with Spanish basketball player Pau Gasol leading it. The two spoke on a variety of subjects before opening up on the current affairs of F1 and his impending return to Renault.

The 2-time World Champion acknowledged that next year’s cars will resemble the current crop of cars. He also knows where Renault stands in the championship and has no delusions of fighting for the Championship.

However, he is excited to work on trying to improve the machine by 2022.

He told Gasol, “When I close the visor anyway, if it is to fight as 10th, 7th or 4th, I do not care, it will seem like the last corner of the World Championship and I will try to give it my all.

“I am watching F1 races wanting to get to Indianapolis, which is my challenge this year. It is difficult due to the situation in which the United States is with infections and difficulties in traveling.

“This is because we are prohibited from entering, there are no flights, we need permits but looking to get there and do the race.”

“Then in September look at F1 and next year, a perhaps unexpected lap. Although now I also feel that with the pandemic other disciplines have been a bit with the future in the air and F1 is a strong category.

“So I’m looking forward to doing another adventure and it will turn out well.”

As a parting note, Fernando Alonso wanted to send a message to the youth. He encouraged them to take care of themselves and their loved ones during the pandemic.

He stressed on the need for social responsibility because once the crisis is over, it should not be brushed off. Alonso insisted that he is proud of his country and its people and their efforts to stay healthy and hygienic.

According to him, everyone must continue to protect each other and that solidarity is a must in the coming months. All that is fundamental in the country and even the world.
