Pierre Gasly has seen casualties in Formula 1 and the lower Formulas. However, at the Japanese Grand Prix yesterday, he stared death straight in the eyes. Nevertheless, when 7x Champion Lewis Hamilton was asked about what he thought of the incident, he didn’t seem too fussed about it.

During the Japanese Grand Prix, a recovery tractor was sent out on track. However, this was done before the Red Flag had actually been waived and the cars had returned to the pitlane. Gasly, who was on his way back, had a near miss with the tractor at about 150 km/hr.

Later, he was handed a 20-second time penalty and 2 penalty points on his super license by the FIA for not slowing down enough. But when Lewis Hamilton was asked about his thoughts on the incident, the Brit was uninterested. He said, “Everyone will be commenting on it, so I don’t really have a care to.”.

The Japanese Grand Prix was a bitter-sweet experience for Hamilton. He eventually did finish 5th. However, the W13’s straight line speeds were disastrous and that meant he could not challenge to fight towards the top. But the Briton is confident that next year will be better for Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton confident that Mercedes will have “a better car next year”

2022 is definitely a season to forget for 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton. The W13 has been the thorn in the sights of both Hamilton and his entire team at Mercedes. However, he is confident that his team has what it takes to regroup over the winter and come back stronger in 2023.

According to him, “I believe that we, as a team, we’ve not gone from being world champions to not being able to build a good car.”. He continued, “We know what the problems are with this car.”. He summarized his expectations for 2023 by saying, “I have no doubts that we’ll have a better car next year. Whether or not we’ve rectified every issue that we’ve had this year, we’ll find out next year.”.
