“I’d Be in Detention…”: 7X World Champion Lewis Hamilton Opens Up On His Treacherous Journey to the Pinnacle of F1

Lewis Hamilton is a living and breathing example of how one can achieve whatever one dreams of and more, despite all hurdles. The 7x Champion makes winning look so easy on track. But getting there was no bed of roses.
For Lewis Hamilton, it wasn’t an easy ride into F1. Being black was one aspect of it, however, as he would reveal there were quite a few impediments that would’ve normally broken anyone. But in Lewis’ case, it only made the man more determined to prove everyone wrong.

Recently, Hamilton spoke about his childhood. In a YouTube video by The Straits Times, we hear him say, “I discovered I was dyslexic when I was 17. And that was really difficult for me to overcome. I was spending three days at school. I’d be in detention all Monday because I took the weekend off.”
“My headmaster did not support my career.”
It’s difficult to imagine what would’ve been going on in the head of a young Hamilton. That being said, Hamilton now would be proud.

Imagine no one believing in you when you said you wanted to become the greatest in F1 ever. Then, you eventually go on to be felicitated in the greatest way possible by the country of your F1 hero. That’s some journey, isn’t it?
Lewis Hamilton receives honorary Brazilian citizenship and dedicates it to one special man

Lewis Hamilton received his honorary Brazilian citizenship this week. Well, it’s Hamilton’s home Grand Prix this weekend then. However, the man went on to dedicate this accolade to one very special man.
Hamilton said, “I really want to dedicate this honor to Ayrton Senna.”, at the ceremony. He went on, “To Ayrton’s family, to his friends and to his fans. For me, when I was five years old, I saw Ayrton race for the first time, and that was the moment I knew I wanted to be a World Champion, just like him.”
