“Is He Still Thinking About…”: Fernando Alonso’s Delusional Thought Questioned Despite Unparalleled Rise for Aston Martin
“But at the moment, I feel the opposite. I love racing,” said Fernando Alonso in 2022 while he was driving for Alpine, who ended up being the crowned ruler of midfield. For someone at the fag end of his career, even that may feel like a great feat to achieve, considering Nando was racing people half his age. However, the ever-hungry Spaniard probably played the last gamble of his career, and what a beautiful move to Aston Martin it has been. The man who has waited 16 years for his third title is dreaming of it again, but should he?
Fernando Alonso is known for outperforming the car. He had in fact once taken away credit for Sebastian Vettel’s dominance, saying he gave more marks to Lewis Hamilton because the latter wins in a car that isn’t the fastest one. As fate held, a retiring Sebastian passed on the baton to Nando and the rest has actually blown our minds. The team that finished seventh last year is currently second in the championship. But is it still a good enough situation to fight for the title, especially with Alonso being 41?

In the F1 Nation’s podcast, as the crew sits to review Sergio Perez and Azerbaijan GP, the conversation steers to resurrected Alonso. It begins when one of the hosts says, “Are we seeing the best Fernando for 10 years? The pace of that car reinvigorated him.” To which Juan Fossaroli said, “He was convinced I don’t know from the beginning of the season it is gonna be like this. But after the test, he started to think that it is possible. And even he thinks it is possible to fight for the championship.” And an astonished Tom Clarkson says, “He is still thinking that now?”
Fossaroli clarifies, “I don’t know. He say now ’24 or ’25 you know how is Alonso. He likes to–sometimes–you know when he makes some declarations you know how he is. Like he criticized Lewis and then last race, after Australia he said what a driver.”
While we don’t when the cheeky Nando wants to make a go for the championship, we do know that sooner rather than later, the man will hang his boots.
Is Fernando Alonso ready to pass on the baton to someone?

An unprecedented big bro-like situation occurred on the grid when Alonso, in full racing mode, told his engineer to help teammate Lance Stroll with the brake balance suggestion. While we have never seen Alonso in this avatar, it is not a surprise it came out for a teammate he called his “hero” in Bahrain, especially after he himself pulled class moves on Hamilton.
Following the race, when asked if he feels like Stroll’s big brother, Alonso replied by saying, as reported by GPBlog.com, “In a way, yes. I know that I will be in the sport for a few more years. After that, he (Stroll) will lead the team for the next 10 or 15 years. So I hope I can help Lance as much as I can in the next few years.”
