Lando Norris is living out his dream of being a Formula 1 driver. However, he has admitted that being in the top tier of motorsport has its drawbacks.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a fruitful maiden season in 2019 and put in impressive performances with McLaren. With him and Carlos Sainz, McLaren snatched fourth in the constructors’ championship.

However, even though he is thrilled to have finally achieved his dream, there are some things he is not too fond of. Lando Norris confessed that the constant travelling and being away from his loved ones has been difficult.

When he spoke to Radio Times, he said, “It’s the simple one of being away from home so much, travelling all the time. Sometimes that’s not bad, sometimes it’s cool to travel, but when you get to the end of the year, the hours and days spent in a plane racks up quite a bit.”

He revealed that drivers don’t just turn up ‘magically’. Instead, they arrive three or four days ahead of the weekend. It also takes the drivers a day or two to account for jet lag and get used to the conditions. According to Norris, the flyaway races are normally the toughest.

He continued, “Being away from home and being away from your family is probably the most annoying thing.”
