Following his impressive podium finish at the British GP, Lando Norris has captured the attention of F1 fans and pundits alike. However, expectations for a repeat performance may need to be tempered as McLaren heads to the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The unique challenges posed by this circuit could halt Norris’ recent onslaught and open the door for a potential resurgence from Fernando Alonso.

McLaren’s recent performances have showcased improved pace, with Lando Norris demonstrating the potential of the revamped MCL60. The British driver’s P2 finish at Silverstone further solidified his position. However, the Hungaroring presents a distinct challenge for McLaren, as the circuit’s low- and medium-speed nature is not conducive to their strengths in high-speed sections. While Fernando has quietly been making his mark as well. With 6 podium finishes in 10 races of the season, Alonso has proven his competitiveness and resilience. Despite the last 2 races not working in his favor, the Hungarian GP presents an opportunity for Alonso to bounce back and showcase his skills once again.

Mat Coch, according to Speedcafe, notes, “I don’t think we’re going to be looking at second and third… We’ve got Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston Martin – Aston Martin were usually pretty good at lower speed stuff as well if you think back to Monaco, so I’d expect a stronger show from them [this weekend].” Coch’s observation raises doubts about McLaren’s ability to replicate their recent success and highlights the fierce competition that awaits them at the Hungaroring, especially in the form of Alonso and Aston Martin.
