There has been a ton of speculation and mystery surrounding Sebastian Vettel and his future in F1. One of the most popular predictions is that Vettel may head to Racing Point/Aston Martin. Now, former F1 driver Gerhard Berger urged the Silverstone-based team to sign the 4-time world champion.

Vettel’s future was left uncertain after Ferrari announced that it was splitting with him after the 2020 championship. So, in 2021, Carlos Sainz jumps ship from McLaren to partner Charles Leclerc in the Maranello-based outfit.

Apparently, many were surprised at the decision, especially Vettel, since he got the impression that he was their first choice. Now that he is set to leave the Italian marquee, Vettel is eager to bow out on a high note.

Sadly for him, Scuderia Ferrari is experiencing its worst start to a season

The good news is that Vettel managed to perform better than his teammate in Hungary after two hiccups in Austria. On a hugely embarrassing note, race winner Lewis Hamilton managed to put both Ferrari teammates a lap down.

Fortunately for Vettel, he finished P6 while Charles Leclerc languished down 11th.

Is this the best we will see of Sebastian Vettel?

Berger told F1-Insider.com: “Sebastian seems to be completely free in his head again as if he wanted to prove to Ferrari that they made a huge mistake by not renewing his contract.

“In addition, with this bad car, he no longer has the pressure to win at all costs. In Hungary, he was back to his old self again. Leclerc didn’t have any small chance.”

Conventional wisdom suggests that a team like Racing Point is a downgrade from Ferrari. However, given Ferrari’s current form, Vettel could be better off at Racing Point/Aston Martin.

In addition to that, Vettel will most likely enjoy equal status within the team. Ferrari is clearly placing all their eggs in Leclerc’s basket, and Vettel has fallen out of favor.
