Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg became friends ever since they started together in Italy. However, the 2016 championship changed the dynamic altogether. We won’t be wrong in calling Rosberg Hamilton’s arch nemesis. Regardless, after the chaos in Spain during the Spanish GP qualifying, Nico Rosberg pushes Hamilton to apologize despite the Briton relishing in the good old days. But to whom is this apology aimed? What is Rosberg implying?

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were both seen at the Spanish GP qualifying session. Lewis Hamilton is still racing with Mercedes, whereas Nico Rosberg arrived as the host for Sky Sports. During the Spanish GP weekend, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were seen attending a PR event where they were talking to the fans at the Circuit. A picture of Hamilton was displayed as he talked about it. He explained how Go Karting was the best time of his life.

He then recalled the time when he started with Formula Racing in Italy alongside Nico Rosberg. He went on to suggest that those were the best day. Nevertheless, during the Q2 session, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell collided. Both the drivers started their fast laps with only seconds left on the clock. As Hamilton approached Russell with the massive slipstream, he went alongside the 25-year-old in an attempt to overtake him. Unfortunately, Russell wasn’t aware of his presence and turned toward him.

George Russell later apologized for his movement, suggesting he did not do it intentionally and that the team did not inform him of Hamilton’s whereabouts. Nico Rosberg, just hours after the kind words from the 38-year-old asked Lewis Hamilton to apologize to Russell suggesting he should not have tried to overtake Russell as it would’ve snatched the 25-year-old’s last chance to get into Q3.

According to a video uploaded by @tsimiks on Twitter, Nico Rosberg said, “So George apologized, which I think is right. But Lewis also needs to apologize because if Lewis goes through, George’s lap is done because then Lewis is right in front and George is stuck behind him and his lap will be ruined. And this is his last try to get into Q3.”

Looks like Rosberg just cannot put the rivalry behind him even after he is retired now. The two will always have that bitter-sweet connection, especially after the 2016 season. The crash between the two Mercedes looked like a flashback of the 2016 Spanish GP. But how?

It was at the same track that we were racing this year where the bitterness between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg started. The German forced Hamilton onto the grass as he tried overtaking. As a result, Lewis Hamilton spun and crashed into Nico Rosberg, taking both the drivers out. Things only got worse after this.

The collision between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell was not as dramatic or dangerous as the 2016 one. However, it had a lot of similarities. First of all, it was the Mercedes teammates. Then Hamilton tried to overtake and his teammate pushed him onto the grass, which led to a collision. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but George Russell failed to get into Q3.
