In today’s world, fame always comes at a price. Ahead of the British GP weekend, the Brit was a target of a racial slur by former F1 champion, Nelson Piquet. The Brazilian used the N-word for the Brit in a live interview. In reply, Hamilton kept his cool and acknowledged the situation with how one needs to change the mindset of such people, rather than setting off.

American actor Edward Norton praised Lewis Hamilton for setting an example. The Fight Club star said, “You are a class act Lewis Hamilton Greatest of all time and still grounded, freely generous of spirit to competitors & peers, focused on the joy, taking the high road when others go low.”

While Piquet received a lot of backlash for his racist comments, Hamilton, with his unwavering focus, let his driving do the talking. The Briton picked up P3 at the British GP and has great momentum going into Austria weekend.

Lewis Hamilton: The Role Model

Since his debut in 2007, Hamilton has come a long way. He has seven world titles to his name, which makes him an example for many up-and-coming motor-sport drivers. The racing line he uses at every corner, how he builds himself up for a weekend, and the work he puts in the team debriefs are some examples that he sets for the junior drivers.

However, that is not all that the 37-year-old offers. Off-track, he has been at the heart of multiple campaigns he believes in. The Mercedes driver is outspoken about the many social injustices that exist. He has always ensured to raise his voice and use his platform to deliver a statement against unjust societal practices.

Notably, Briton launched the Hamilton commission in June 2020. The first Black driver to race in F1 launched the organization when he realized the underrepresentation of black people in the world of racing. The commission aims to close the gap of inequality that exists.

Furthermore, he set the example by using his platform to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Hamilton and the other drivers took a knee before every race to send a message that racism has no place in society. Also, he backed the LGBTQ community multiple times by wearing a progress pride flag helmet in the middle east.
