Recently, former McLaren F1 team principal Ron Dennis spoke about Lewis Hamilton. The ex CEO believes that his relationship with the Mercedes star is akin to a “surrogate father and son”.

The Briton is also proud of the way that Hamilton continues to show his talent, just like how Dennis taught him. Admittedly, McLaren has played a massive role in shaping Lewis Hamilton into the star that he is today.

They, and by extension Ron Dennis, helped the future 6-time world champion rise through the ranks. Dennis even gave him his big break when he signed him for the McLaren F1 team in 2007. Even after all these years, Lewis Hamilton is grateful for McLaren’s influence and he hasn’t forgotten his Woking roots.

After winning his sixth crown, Hamilton told Sky Sports, “I got a text from Ron and I just want to send my love, and thank you for spotting me when I was 10 years old and believing in me.”

He knew that if he had not caught Ron’s notice, in his youth, he would not have made it to the big leagues. According to Dennis, Hamilton’s gratitude towards him is what makes him a great driver and personality. All this in spite of them having an occasional difference of opinion.
