Sebastian Vettel has not been at the peak of his powers since the 2018 F1 season when he crashed out of the German Grand Prix. Red Bull’s Motorsport Consultant, Dr. Helmet Marko, is very hopeful of Vettel making his way back to the top in 2021.

The German has made the switch to Aston Martin from Ferrari for the 2021 season. He’s hoping that the switch to the Mercedes-powered team will spark him into the title-winning form he had demonstrated at Red Bull.

His 2020 campaign for Ferrari was shambolic and would rank as the worst season in his career. Hence, he’ll be hoping there is a significant progression from his latter Ferrari seasons.

Marko believes Sebastian Vettel will be back on top

In an interview (translated via Google), the Austrian was very hopeful of Vettel returning to his best while racing for Aston Martin.

“He needs support in the team, a feeling of security, that has not been the case at Ferrari in the past two or three years. That wasn’t the man we knew. Including the many mistakes he suddenly made.”

Marko is in a great position to speculate if that could happen. He has been very public in his admiration and felt Red Bull missed out on the opportunity of potentially resigning him.

He also makes the interesting point that Ferrari had not given Vettel security for two-three seasons. It has shown, to an extent, the degree of flux behind the scenes. The Italian team has not had stable management behind the scenes with constant chopping and changing before every season.

Can the German make a grand comeback in 2021?

Vettel now goes to a team that has shown tremendous upward movement in the standings. Aston Martin, in its previous guise of Racing Point, finally fulfilled its ambition of winning a race.

The win will have done a great deal in pushing the ambitions of the team towards challenging for the title. They will face some teething problems initially and it may take them some time to get it together and mount a challenge, but the signs are there.

The atmosphere of an upstart team could maybe help the German to rediscover his talent. Hopefully, 2021 is the season in which he completes his renaissance.
