After waiting for 5 long years with 109 Grand Prix starts, which include 15 podiums, Lando Norris finally scored his maiden win in Formula 1 in the Miami Grand Prix. However, his father, Adam Norris, who often accompanies his son to Grand Prix weekends was unfortunately not present in Miami to witness the special moment for himself. Norris, who gave a shout-out to his mom and dad during the cooldown lap after taking the checkered flag, called his father the first chance he got after the race with an emotional message.

The British driver was not in a winning position in the first half of the race after starting from P5. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, on the other hand, jumped him at the start and got himself into podium contention. However, Lando got the stroke of luck in his favor right after the front runners made their first round of pit stops with a timely Safety Car.

An incident involving the local hero, Logan Sargeant, and Haas driver Kevin Magnussen on lap 30 brought out the Safety Car. Norris, who hadn’t pitted with the lead group earlier got a free stop under Safety Car conditions and inherited the lead of the race from Max Verstappen. Once the race resumed, Norris used his fresh rubber to get out of Verstappen’s DRS detection zone and never looked back after that. He stretched his advantage with every single lap and ended up winning the race by 7+ seconds.

As he crossed the checkered flag, he came over the team radio, filled with emotions, and thanked his parents as he dedicated his win to his grandma. “Whoooooo, whooooooo, I love you all,” shouted Norris. “I guess that’s how it’s done, I said it when I came in today, I said it was a day full of opportunity and I nailed it, you nailed it, thank you so much. Thanks, Mum, thanks, Dad. This one’s for my Grandma. Thank you very much.”

Later on, he called his father and told him that all his hard work had finally paid off. It was an emotional conversation, and although we did not get to hear what his father said, we could use our imagination to fill in the gaps.“It finally paid off… Ah, it’s good. It’s good.” He asked his father, “You were scared?” and then told him that he wasn’t. “I was okay. Oh Thank You, I love you.”
