McLaren’s Lando Norris Turns F1 Mechanic As He Helps Team Pack Up After the Hungarian Grand Prix

After two blistering races in Austria, Lando Norris struggled to replicate those performances in Hungary. Qualifying for Sunday’s race in P8, Norris didn’t have the greatest of starts and slipped out of the top ten. However, it soon got worse. After the first few laps on the intermediate tires, he pitted for the slicks alongside a number of others and got held up in the pits as a result.
The young Briton only managed to get back on the track in 18th place and was never able to recover. He finished the race in P13 and had to yield his number 3 spot on the Drivers’ Championship standings to Max Verstappen. After a disappointing race, it is not unusual for a driver to head back to their room and reflect on what could have been. But not this young man. Norris instead, spent the rest of the day helping the McLaren crew.

After the race was over, McLaren’s social media accounts posted a picture of Norris helping the team dismantle his MCL35. Today the Briton posted the same picture on his Twitter account with a caption that read, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. 3 long weeks for my team. Though they could use a couple more hands.”
His car, now dismantled, will head to the McLaren headquarters in Woking, UK. There it will remain until the Silverstone Grand Prix rolls around, on the 2nd of August. Now, both drivers, Norris and Carlos Sainz along with the other team members will head home for a short break and a quick recharge of their batteries before racing action resumes again.

Unlike Norris, Sainz managed to finish in the points by overtaking future Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc towards the end of the race. It puts the Spaniard in 9th place on the Drivers’ standings. As for McLaren, they end the race in 3rd place on the Constructors’ Championship table. They keep their place from last weekend by the narrowest of margins (1 pt) to Racing Point who are in 4th place. Who do you think will end this season as ‘the best of the rest?’
