Mercedes F1’s Dual-Axis Steering (DAS) system has already caused a stir among rival teams, such as Red Bull, who had launched a complaint to the FIA, questioning the system’s legality.
However, Mercedes’ Toto Wolff felt that it was totally understandable since this was a new innovation in the sport.
The DAS system that Mercedes are currently using on their W11, has been already been banned for the 2021 season by the FIA.

Nevertheless, The Silver Arrows’ Technical Director, James Allison, has affirmed that the team plans to continue its “voyage of discovery.”
Speaking to Motorsport.com Allison said, “I think that for us, it’s still a very new system. Precisely how, where and when we get the most opportunity from it is, to some degree, continuing to be a voyage of discovery for us.

“The manner in which we develop it is still open for us as the season goes on. So it’s not a closed book, and we hope to get more from it if we can learn quickly in the coming races.”
Even without the DAS system, the W11 is the best car on the grid, and it is not even close. So the likes of Red Bull and Racing Point may not be too happy to receive this bit of information.
However, for Mercedes, it only means taking another step towards sealing what will be a seventh consecutive Constructors’ Championship title. With 121 points from the opening three races, they have already gone 66 points clear of second-placed Red Bull.
