Despite being a global star athlete, Lewis Hamilton recently exhibited the ultimate sportsman spirit. In dramatic fashion of events at the Qatar Grand Prix 2023, both the Mercedes drivers were involved in a lap-1 incident. Mercedes is determined to defend their championship, but the upcoming races will pose a significant challenge. But at least for now, the harmony in the Mercedes garage remains. Credit to Lewis for doing so, as even Nicolas Hamilton, his brother, acknowledged.

Lewis Hamilton accepts responsibility for the Qatar GP clash
Following his Qatar Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton took full responsibility for a first-corner collision with his teammate George Russell. He wasn’t afraid of admitting that the fault was entirely his fault. After the race, the teammates hugged it out as Lewis apologized to his younger teammate. On a post uploaded by Mercedes, Nicholas Hamilton left a heart emoji “❤️” that resonated with the fans worldwide. Nicholas’ one-word message instates that even his Lewis’ brother is happy to know that all is well at the Mercedes garage.

In a thrilling moment at the start of the race, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell went three abreast with Max Verstappen. As Hamilton took the outside line at turn 1, a slight touch was enough to cause a collision that saw both Hamilton and Russell spinning off the track. Following that, the initial radio communications indicated blame-shifting from both drivers. But Lewis Hamilton wasted no time in accepting his fault during media interviews.

“I just feel really sorry to my team,” said a disheartened Hamilton to Sky Sports F1. “I’m happy to take responsibility as the older one.” Even before watching a replay, he posted on social media, “I’ve watched the replay, and it was 100% my fault. Apologies to my team and to George.”

Even though George Russell was really upset at first and had to go to the pit to fix his car during the race, he did a great job coming back. After the race, he posted a picture on social media of him hugging Hamilton to show that they’re cool now, and there are no bad feelings between them.
