Mercedes is not only one of the top car manufacturers in the world but also one of the top teams in Formula 1. Throughout its comeback years in Formula 1 since 2010, the team has enjoyed loads of success with Lewis Hamilton behind the wheel and partnerships with some of the top brands in the world that came along with that success. However, the team has been struggling for pace since the start of the ground effect era. And even before the team could test how their 2024 challenger would fare, Lewis Hamilton shocked them by signing a contract with Ferrari for 2025.

This decision, while extremely fruitful for the Scuderia, has the potential to spell disaster for the Silver Arrows. Mercedes not only lost its top driver, but they are also at risk of losing major sponsors as a result of Hamilton’s departure because of his pull. And recently rumors have been going around that the team had already lost two of its major sponsors, Puma and Tommy Hilfiger, making way for a new major sponsor, Adidas.

It is worth noting that Puma and Tommy Hilfiger while being the suppliers for the team’s firesuits and leisure outfits, generate almost 6 million pounds ($7.5 million) for the team combined, and losing them would mean an enormous blow for the team financially. However, Tommy Hilfiger has now confirmed that it will extend its partnership with the Brackley-based team for 2025 and beyond.

The update came from the X (formerly Twitter) account of Deni, a popular account for news related to Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. The tweet referenced Tommy Hilfiger’s statement in a report from WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) that read, “The world of racing is developing at an incredible pace, and we are excited to be at the forefront in continuing partnership with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team. We are excited to accelerate this legacy into the 2024-25 season.”

However, as of now, there is no similar official word from Puma to clear up the rumors about their exit.

Puma could make way for Adidas at Mercedes

With Tommy Hilfiger set to continue its partnership with Mercedes, Adidas is most likely to take Puma’s place in providing team kits and racing suits from 2025 onwards. The supposed new deal with Adidas is also projected to bring in more revenue than what Mercedes earned from both Puma and Tommy Hilfiger combined, amounting to tens of millions of dollars, as reported by The Daily Mail.

This would not only ease Mercedes’ financial worries but would also be a significant win for Adidas, who were seeking to rebound after losing their contract with the German soccer team.
