Over the years, music has become a form of art that brings people together. Well, Lewis Hamilton would beg to differ when it comes to Red Bull and his conflicting music tastes. In fact, while finishing P2 in the championship would be something he and Mercedes are aiming for, there could be a possibility he would hope to finish as far away from Red Bull as possible because that would mean he wouldn’t have to share a wall with its garage. But what does he have against Red Bull’s music taste?

In an interview last season, Hamilton expressed the need to stay calm in a high-adrenaline sport like Formula 1 that is so dependent on precision. But Red Bull was making it hard for him to get in his zone with loud and not-Hamilton-approved music. He said, “The garage next door is playing the worst music. Yeah, the Bulls don’t play great music. So you put your headphones in to listen to what you want to listen to, what your vibe is.”

Considering how music usually pumps everyone up, you would think most teams play loud music in their garages. But that’s not really the case. Apart from that one time at the 2021 Monaco GP when McLaren blared the Spider-Man theme when Tom Holland was passing by, it’s usually just Red Bull being the DJ. And that’s what makes the Milton-Keynes squad different. And that’s exactly what Christian Horner said on ESPN’s Unlapped Podcast.

While talking about the support the team gets from its fans, Horner said, “We’re grateful for all the support we get from all around the world. Red Bull is a different team. We play our music loud, and we enjoy what we do and try to do it with a smile on our face.” And just like that, he shrugged off every Red Bull music hater, including Hamiton. While it was Hamilton doling out the criticism last year, Horner took the opportunity to return the favor.

After the 2021 season that saw the birth of Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s rivalry, everyone thought it would be one that would last. But after the 2022 regulation changes that Red Bull absolutely nailed, Mercedes couldn’t build a competitive car to challenge Red Bull. And for the past year-and-a-half, the Brackley team has only been playing catch-up with the Milton-Keynes squad. And with Red Bull having won all 12 races so far, it’s 256 points ahead of Mercedes.

When Horner discussed Red Bull’s dominance on the podcast, he said, “In February, we already knew we had a good car, but we expected Ferrari to build on last year, and we thought Mercedes would be there too. We were completely surprised that we are so competitive compared to our opponents. We saw in the race simulations that we were competitive. The Aston Martin then seemed to be the closest to us, and the Mercedes didn’t look great as they continued with their concept.” Mercedes still hasn’t figured out its car concept properly, which puts it at a further disadvantage.
