The economics of Formula 1 allows the best of the best to actually thrive. It isn’t uncommon to see drivers become millionaires and billionaires in a jiffy! 7x Champion, Lewis Hamilton is a case study of exactly this. Naturally, with all his exploits on and off the track, the Brit has been able to amass a considerable bank balance. More specifically, Hamilton is estimated to be worth around $285 million! On the back of boasting such healthy finances, the Mercedes legend made his foray into team ownership. And as it would appear, his hefty pockets have already started to make a difference.

Earlier in 2022, Hamilton became part of a consortium that bought the NFL team, Denver Broncos. Now that Hamilton is in charge of the team, naturally, all expenses are also borne out of his pockets. And recently, the team was able to do the necessary but exorbitant, backed by the Brit.

Given safety concerns due to the wear and tear the Broncos’ playing field had endured, they have decided to change it. However, there is one catch! As per Yahoo Finance, “Via Mike Klis of 9News.com, the Broncos have spent $400,000 to install a new playing surface. For one game. And one game only.”

“By next year, another new surface will be installed. It’s a powerful message by the new kids on the NFL’s block regarding the right way to run a team.” This may be a hefty dent in Lewis’s pockets if the Broncos splash his cash in such an exorbitant manner.

Still, it’s no secret that Hamilton’s foray into the NFL as a team owner is purely motivated by his love for the sport. On many occasions, Hamilton has opened up about his desire to turn the wheels of change from his privileged position.

Lewis Hamilton has been a true spokesperson for the black community and all the under-represented ethnicities. He’s also been a vocal supporter of equity and inclusivity in the domain of sports. However, the very first agenda on his wishlist for society is something very close to his heart.

Speaking at the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix, Grandprix247.com quoted him saying, “I do want to get more and more involved in teams because I really do believe in Black ownership, because there is a lack of it within sports, and Black equity. There is a real lack of that.”
