Lando Norris had a rough start this season, but he regained his form at the Melbourne race. More recently, he finished third in the Emilia Romagna GP, bagging his first podium this season. Doing so, he proved that he is one of the best young talents in motorsport. Last season he outperformed his veteran teammate Daniel Ricciardo. This season, his performance is looking great as well, although he struggled with the new car at the beginning of the season.

Looking at Lando’s current form, many are comparing him to another skilled driver, Lewis Hamilton. Like the seven-time world champion, Lando also hails from the UK and they both started their F1 careers at McLaren.

Norris was glad to be compared to the Mercedes driver. He said, “Honestly, it’s not the worst thing to be compared to him. And on the driver’s side of things, obviously, he’s a very good driver and a lot of people want to kind of be as good as him in the racing.”

Norris further expressed, “He’s won a great amount of championships. So sure, he’s going to go on and win many more. I don’t know when he’s going to retire or finish in Formula 1. I’m sure it’s going to be quite a few more years.”

Lando Norris doubted McLaren for scoring podiums

The young Briton bagged his first podium this season at the Imola GP. However, Norris initially didn’t think that he could win any podium this season with the Woking-based team. The McLaren duo was struggling with the 2022 challenger MCL36 since the season opener in Bahrain.

Norris and Ricciardo could not finish in the top 10 in Bahrain. But soon, Norris finished in the Top 10 for the first time in the Saudi Arabian GP. Subsequently, the English F1 team’s performance got even better in Melbourne, where Norris and Ricciardo finished in P5 and P6, respectively. And last weekend, Norris shocked everyone with the third-place finish in Imola after Charles Leclerc dropped from P3 after spinning at the Variante Alta chicane.

After the Imola race, Norris shared his thoughts on finishing P3. Lando reported, “I’m surprised I guess to be here, but it feels amazing. From where we were, what, three or four weeks ago in Bahrain, to be on a podium, I genuinely didn’t think we would be on the podium all year after Bahrain. So it’s quite a shock.”
