But the recent incidents at the Austrian GP have sent the whole paddock into shock. Some fans were at the forefront of being abused and faced catcalling and racist comments from some rowdy supporters in the grandstands. While they did, file a complaint against the behavior of some fans.

There have been some questions surrounding the measures necessary from F1’s end after the incident. Hamilton revealed he has been trying to convince all 10 teams to sign up for a diversity and inclusion charter.

“We last had conversations with the Royal Academy of Engineering back in March and we are awaiting further information from them on such an important topic, of which we at Williams Racing already have serious active programmes,” said the Williams F1 team.

The team also gave an update on the progress of the charter he wanted the teams to sign.

The charter commits the teams to take steps to make progress in the area. But Williams revealed that they have gotten no update from the other teams’ end since their meeting in March.

“We have no knowledge of the progress and of who has and has not signed up to date, as it has been several months since we had any communication from them. Once we are in possession of further information and a copy of the final charter, we can look into it,” said the British team.

It is indeed sad to see that the progress is slow on the issue of racism and inclusivity. The Austrian GP organizers also need to take steps to make the track a safer place for the fans. It is for them to decide on the appropriate punishment for the fans who were causing havoc in the stands.
