Imagine winning every championship you compete in prior to F1 and doing so in your rookie year. That’s what Oscar Piastri’s career has been until now, all glorious and shiny, as he now finally prepares for the toughest challenge of his career with McLaren in Formula 1. The driver has been so good until now that McLaren has had to fight for him against Alpine in 2022. So, while the team from Enstone won the battle for P4 in the constructors’ championship, the Woking squad had the last laugh.

McLaren now has a fresh squad with a new pairing, full of young energy and talent, coming in with a new team principal, Andrea Stella, who has been optimistic ahead of the season. Together, the team certainly carries the potential to turn the tide head-on from last season and challenge for a higher spot in the championship. A lot banks of them, with hopes running high in the team and the fans.

Piastri, given his talent, is understood to not like being second to anyone, and Stella doesn’t underestimate him either. But the boss knows that the youngster must learn from Daniel Ricciardo, who left the team after a disastrous season in 2022. Something, which was also requested by the fellow Aussie, who made room for Piastri.

As quoted by Motorsport Magazine, McLaren’s boss commented on Piastri, saying, “Saying that, the journey we want to take with Oscar is also an independent journey. He’s certainly very talented. And we want him to use his references, references from the car, references, even from what we learned with Daniel and so on.”

“But we are quite adamant that he will have enough talent, process, intelligence to kind of find his own way, taking advantage of these references. So not very concerned at all that we may lose this kind of experience in terms of comparison.”

Oscar Piastri will be getting his first experience in the new McLaren during the first pre-season testing session. He carries the potential to push the car to the brink, possibly even more so than Lando Norris.

As quoted by Planet F1, Zak Brown said, “We think Oscar is going to be a sensational racing driver. If you look at his career to date, he’s won a lot of championships in his first year – which always tells you a driver is special. He’s got a great mental approach to the sport. And now that we feel that Lando has a lot of experience, we feel like we have a great blend of experience and youth.”
